Hi Friends! How was your long weekend?
If you’ve been following along on Instastories, you saw that Chris and I were in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona this past weekend for our friend Maya’s wedding. We got back late last night. More on that later!
Maya treated the bridesmaids to manicures before her big day, but a few days before I left, I decided to get a pedicure…my first one EVER. Yes, that’s right! (I do wear polish, but I do it myself). I did a poll on Instagram, and 80% of you said “What?! You’ve been missing out!” The thing is, I’ve don’t like the idea of people touching my feet. Am I weird? Probably. I don’t even want my husband to give me a foot rub! Haha. Also, I’ve been to a few salons that look a little sketchy, and while I’ve gotten decent manicures, I was afraid of getting my first ever pedicure and then catching a disease. That would certainly turn me off of them forever.
However, when Fringe Salon in Wicker Park reached out to me to try one of their services, I decided to go for it. I’d been to their salon for a lash treatment before, and knew their establishment was clean and professional, not to mention convenient. (They also do hair, facials, waxing, makeup…it’s a one stop shop!) I was able to make my appointment online, and choose the nail technician I wanted. It’s close to Damen on the Blue Line, so I just took the El after work.
Volcano Spa Pedicure
I opted for the “Volcano Spa Pedicure” (here). My nail technician, Irene, added detox volcano crystals to the spa water, along with a detox volcano activator. The activator caused immediate fizzing and bubbling, along with a fragrance.
This treatment detoxifies impurities from your skin, and also improves circulation. Irene also told me that hard water from just your daily shower can build up in your heels, causing a lot of the flaking and roughness. After the pedicure, I also received a collagen massage which made my skin feel smooth.
Even though I was initially nervous, (I told Irene I had never had a pedicure before), she made me feel super comfortable. She walked me through the entire process of what she was doing, and explained each step and the benefits. I feel like I’m almost over my foot phobia! I love the idea that when I get my next pedicure, I can request her again. Rather than showing up at a salon and getting a random technician. It’s been a week since I went, and my polish is completely intact! Despite the fact that I went for regular polish, not gel.
In addition to regular pedicures and Volcano Spa Pedicures, Fringe Salon also offers Jelly Pedicures, where your spa water turns to jelly, which helps in callus removal by targeting dead skin cells to exfoliate. So cool right? I’ll have to try that next!
Tell me, what’s your favorite spa treatment? Do you like the idea of going to one salon for everything (hair, nails, facial, etc?)
