Hi Friends!
Today, Reid turned one month old! It’s weird because it feels like he’s been with us for so much longer, but at the same time, I can’t believe how old he is already, how fast he’s growing, and how much he’s changed. At certain angles, he already looks so much more like a little boy than an infant.
We’re learning so much about Reid everyday, from what he likes and dislikes, to what his cries and noises mean. He seems to have a strong personality and will let you know how he wants things! He doesn’t cry for no reason, but he will “fake cry” if he is hungry, wants his pacifier, wants his diaper changed, or wants to be held. This little guy is no wallflower. I’ve been calling him “highly dramatic,” because he’ll scream bloody murder but then instantaneously stop the second he gets what he wants. He even has a proud, smiley look on his face when he gets it! Reid is also rarely quiet – he grunts, coos, gurgles, and bleats like a baby goat pretty much all day long. He is also very active and squirmy, and loves to wave his arms around and kick.
At 2 days old, he started lifting his head on his own! The kid is super strong! Maybe from all the protein I ate during my pregnancy since I couldn’t eat carbs? He also can already turn himself over on his side. He’s also been working on his grip strength by wrapping his little fingers around my hair and refusing to let go – I can’t even pry them apart.
Reid has gained 2 lbs since birth, and is now over 8lbs. He’s a lot like his dad. He LOVES to eat but probably can’t gain much weight (Chris is a bottomless pit and lost 6lbs in the first two weeks after Reid’s birth from SKIPPING the gym). We fed Reid a bit of formula at the hospital before my milk came in (and because he had some jaundice), and the first couple days we were home. But since then, I’m exclusively breastfeeding and pumping – Reid will seemingly eat anything though! He can now chug 4 ounces in a feeding, whereas we were originally feeding him a few milliliters of formula from a syringe when he was a few days old…he’s come so far! Because of all he’s eating we are ALWAYS changing his diaper – he doesn’t like dirty diapers and will let us know he needs a change ASAP.
Reid appears to be a bit of a night owl. Currently, he sleeps 2-3 hour stretches at night (last night he was up from 12am to 4am). But he can sleep 5 hours during the day…we need to work on that. He does not seem to care for white noise machines (we’ve tried 2 kinds) or swaddles…he breaks out of every swaddle we’ve tried, including the ones with velcro. He also wants to be held, especially against our chests over our shoulders so he can see…he is always staring at lights. I’m guessing when he can completely flip over, he’s going to be a stomach sleeper. Originally, he was able to self-soothe after a feeding and I could put him down after a feeding, but after family was in town (and everyone wanted to hold him) he got used to it. Now he wants to be held until he’s asleep…if we put him down before he’s completely out, he will wake up and cry.
Currently, he sleeps in his UppaBaby bassinet that is attached to the Cruz stroller (it’s our indoor stroller, we have been using the Minu stroller and birth kit for outdoors) and we wheel him around the condo with us. He also naps in a Boppy on the dining room table…that’s going to have to change soon when he is able to roll over. Originally, he sometimes slept on a quilt or his elephant play mat) on the dining room table. However, we want our table back so I ordered a Pack n’ Play that just arrived today – we’ll see how he likes that! (He did not care for the Rock n’ Play – good thing since it was recalled, or his bouncer).
That’s all for now – happy one month Reid!
