Hi Guys – Normally, I post on Mondays, but it’s been a rough few days over here. Are you a glass half full or glass half empty person? I like to think I’m pretty positive, but I have to admit, a terrible headache, some tech issues, and a few scary experiences, have left me feeling down.
Our weekend started off pretty well – on Saturday, we had an appointment to pick our countertops for the new condo. But we were actually able to pick all our bathroom floor/shower tile (master, 2nd bath, powder room) and kitchen backsplash as well! We knew what we wanted, and had done a ton of research! Unfortunately, our Uber driver to the appointment had been smoking, and even though he had put it out, the car was filled with smoke, and I started getting a bad headache.
Later that evening, we headed over to my friend’s birthday party…this Uber driver’s car smelled BAD. My headache never went away, so by the time we arrived, I was feeling kind of sick again. The first bar we met with our friends at was…filled with smoke. So despite the fact that it was our friend’s birthday, we left and said we’d go to the next bar on the agenda to try to grab a table. We weren’t able to, so we all regrouped and got dinner instead. At this point, I got a text from my sister.
Lily had been at the Global Citizen Festival in NYC, and there was a stampede when people thought they heard gunshots (it was later discovered that it was either a barrier falling, or the sound of popping bottles). As everyone was running away, Lily got semi-trampled and hurt her knee. She had to go to the hospital to get x-rays, and luckily, it doesn’t seem too bad, but she needs to wear a brace for a while. But this freaked me out…what kind of place are we in that people think the sound of popping bottles are gunshots?? Lily said she spent almost 2 hours thinking she in serious danger before they found out it was nothing.
After dinner, our friends headed to another bar…which again was filled with smoke. At this point, my head was pounding. I felt bad for leaving so early, but Chris and I headed back home.
On Sunday morning, I headed over to a blogger event. I got into another Uber, and the driver greeted me with “Where are you from?” I said I was local, but he responded with “I think you are from China.” This led into a conversation that made me really uncomfortable for the entire ride. The blogger event also turned out to kind of disorganized, so I ended up leaving.
Later that evening, my work laptop died! I had spilled a little bit of water on it on Friday, but I wiped it off, and it seemed fine. I’ve been kind of stressed at work recently, and had some things I really needed to get done, and having my computer die really set me back. I was going to take a day off this week for our Wisconsin trip, but we decided to push it back.
Monday was a long day. I was able to secure a loaner laptop at work, but it doesn’t have any of my files, so I had to redo some work. And then, as I was walking home from work, I technically got hit by a car! The guy had come to a full stop, so I started walking, but by the time I was directly in front of his car, he started going again! I was able to mostly jump out of the way, but he did graze my leg, although it didn’t hurt. I yelled “Watch where you’re going!” for the first time ever, and he said “I’m sorry, I didn’t see you.” I responded “How did you not see me? You’re making a left turn!” And he got an attitude and replied “What do you want me to do? I already told you I’m sorry!” Argh.
Even though these are are minor things that happened (plus some annoyances that I won’t get into), added up, they’ve put me in a grumpy mood. BUT, I’m trying to see everything from a glass half full perspective.
- My headache is almost completely gone.
- Uber either refunded me or gave me a partial credit back for the rides that didn’t go so well.
- My sister is SAFE, and she will recover from her injury. No one at the festival was shot.
- The IT department at work will fix my computer at no cost to me.
- I didn’t get hurt from that driver who wasn’t paying attention. My leg is totally fine.
- I’ll get a bunch of work done this week, and we’ll try to go to Wisconsin next weekend.
- Our condo still isn’t done, and we’re not sure when it will be, but we’re making some progress. We’re ordering out light fixtures next.
That makes everything sound so much better right? In the grand scheme of things, everything is OK.
Do little things get you down? Are you a glass half full person?
