Hi Friends! How was your weekend?
Chris and I hung out with my sister, Lily! She flew in Friday morning from NYC for a super short Chicago visit (and she left Sunday morning…wah).
Lily usually visits once a year or so (sometimes twice)…always when the weather is terrible. So I’m glad this weekend was sunny and not too hot! Lily last came to Chicago in January before she left for Italy to study abroad. She got back to NYC at the end of May, and started an internship. Now, she’s getting ready to start senior year at NYU and hopefully graduate early at the end of this year.
I’m trying to convince her to move to Chicago after graduation. Who’s with me? She can get the big city living that she wants, but it’s not as expensive!
What We Did On Friday
On Friday, I worked from home so I could let Lily in when she arrived. She took a shower, unpacked, and then we went to lunch at one of my most frequented spots in the West Loop/Fulton Market. Despite living in NYC and eating a ton of ramen, Lily loves the Kimchi Fried Chicken Ramen from Ramen-San too. See, I told you it’s good!
After lunch, Lily food coma-ed (since she woke up at 3am to go to the airport) while I worked. I woke her up at 5pm to take her to see our new condo (the outside of it, since it’s still not ready). When we got back, Chris was home. Lily helped take some blog photos of Chris and me for a future post, and then we went to dinner at Forno Rosso, another one of the restaurants we go to the most often. Lily thought it was really good despite living in Italy for half a year!
After dinner, we decided to watch the latest Avenger’s movie on Blu-ray…and Lily fell asleep again. Haha. So we decided to call it a night.
Saturday Plans
On Saturday, we took Lily to Wicker Park. In previous trips, she’s been to Streeterville (where I used to live), River North, Gold Coast, the Loop, Lincoln Park, and West Loop (where we live now). I made a 1:30pm reservation at Cafe Robey since Lily isn’t a morning person. But she was actually awake by 10am (haha) so we headed out and got lattes at 80s-themed Wormhole Coffee, and ice cream cones at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams…before brunch. (Ice cream was Chris’s idea, haha).
Lily and split the world’s biggest steak sandwich at Cafe Robey while Chris got cod, potatoes, and veggies (which I forgot to take a photo with until we were almost done). Then we walked through Bucktown and all the way to Logan Square! As we walked, we saw some of the jets from the Air and Water (totally forgot it was this weekend!) We stopped at Same Day Cafe for house made sodas, freshly squeezed juice, and a sandwich for Chris since he’s a bottomless pit.
After that we headed back home – Chris went to the gym and Lily and went grocery shopping. Then, Lily spent a couple hours digging through my boxes of beauty products to decide what she wanted to take back with her (I know the real reason she comes to visit). After the gym, Chris wanted to go to dinner (haha) so we stopped by a newish Asian spot in Greektown called WJ Noodles. We got so much food, and it was so affordable! We’ll be back for sure.
We made another attempt to watch TV after we were back, but Lily started falling asleep again. That girl! But she had a 7:30am flight to catch. Thanks for coming to visit Lily, even though it was super short!
