Hi Friends! Happy Wednesday!!
How’s your week going? To be honest, mine’s been kind of rough. My doctor called to say I have gestational diabetes! This actually really truly shocked me. I eat pretty healthy normally, but I’m been a crazy person this pregnancy – no desserts or processed sugar! All organic! No junk food. Like the complete opposite of whole “pregnant woman indulging in pints of ice cream in the middle of the night” mental image. But apparently this it has nothing to do with diet, and more with how much insulin my body is able to produce during my pregnancy.
My doctor said my 1 hour glucose test was so high, that they don’t even want to re-test me, which is usually what happens when you fail. They have me started on pricking my finger 4 times a day to check my blood sugar, but at least those numbers have been normal so far. (Unfortunately, I don’t always draw enough blood, and sometimes the test errors out, so really, I’m pricking myself 8-10 times a day which is not fun).
Part of me wonders if because I never eat sugar, my body didn’t react well to me chugging 100 grams of it in 60 seconds? But anyways, it’s been a bummer and has been putting a damper on my week so far. (Haha, that’s putting it lightly…I was truly freaking out for a while). I was planning on getting so much done before our holiday travels, but instead, I’ve just been reading/researching gestational diabetes. But on a brighter note, we’re heading to Chris’s parents’ house in Raleigh tomorrow! I’m excited to see family, friends, and for warmer weather.
Today, I’m sharing another holiday-inspired look. This mock neck sweater and plaid skirt is perfect for a daytime outing, or even dinner with family. It’s casual, warm, comfy, all while spreading some holiday cheer. I also love how this mock neck sweater and plaid skirt can be paired with a variety of different pieces: jeans, black turtle neck, white silk shirt, and more. Here, I’m wearing them with black leggings and my waterproof suede boots (currently on sale).
This skirt has a cute little button at the top, and looks really cute tucked in! Although not currently on me – it makes it baby bump look weird. But the waist band is elastic, perfect for all your holiday meals!
Have a great day everyone! See you back here soon! If you have experiences with gestational diabetes, let me know!
