Hi Friends, Happy Friday! Lots of new stuff happening over here that I will update you guys with next week when it’s final! Today, I wanted to share some photos from our baby shower last weekend!
I don’t know why I used to feel this way, because I like giving gifts…it’s one of my love languages! But for some reason I used to feel really weird about receiving gifts (and I still sometimes feel bad about it). I’ve mentioned this before, but when I got married, I elected to not have a bridal shower. A lot of our family and friends live out of town, and since they were already coming in for the wedding, I felt guilty asking them to fly in an additional time…to bring me presents.
However, since I got married, I’ve been to a bunch more bridal showers, and I now know that people don’t really see it that way. Most family and friends see it as an opportunity to spend time together before the big day and to celebrate. Plus, I love going to other people’s showers! It’s so fun! So when my friend Christina asked me if I’d be interested in having a baby shower (she really didn’t know if it would make me uncomfortable!) I agreed. My friend Michaela who had originally offered to host my bridal shower at her beautiful home, offered again to host the baby shower. So everything started coming together after that!
In talking with Chris, we decided to have a co-ed baby shower so that both our female and male friends could attend, and bring their significant others. After all, a new baby is something to be celebrated by all! But pretty much after that, I stayed out of the planning. I think my only suggestions were that I liked elephants for a theme, and brunch-ish food.
My friends and my sister Lily pulled everything else off, and Chris and I just showed up. My college girlfriends living in San Francisco, Miami, and Raleigh came in from their weather cities to plan/attend in the middle of February in Chicago, which I really appreciate! Maya, my friend who lives in Phoenix, couldn’t get the day off at the hospital (she’s a doctor) but she’s literally been giving me so much pediatric advice, it was like she was there, haha.
Michaela and Joanna MADE these elephant cake pops from scratch! Joanna is amazing at making cakes…check out her Instagram here.
Kara made all these quiches…they were so good, and gestational diabetes friendly! (I just skipped the crust).
Lily made these little goody bags with candy and blueberry tea! Cute!
And thanks to Meghan and Grant who took these pictures so I could talk to everyone!
For games, we played two. For one, there were pictures of baby bumps and beer guts, and you had to guess which one was which. The other quiz featured pictures of expressions women made either in labor or acting in…um…adult films. And we had to guess! It was harder than you’d think. Some how my sister got 100% on each quiz. LOL.
Small Bean is already so loved – he’s a lucky little boy. Not everyone made it into the below picture, but we did get most of the crew! Thanks to Joanna for taking it!
And thanks to our friends for coming!
Do you like going to baby showers?
