Hi Friends! Happy Hump Day!
As I mentioned last week, this past Saturday, we went to our friends’ wedding part 1 at The Rookery. (Part 2 is in Australia!) I had never been to the venue before – it’s STUNNING!
It was such a beautiful and fun wedding, and perfectly captured the couple. For the ceremony, Michaela and Byron had a wooden box engraved with their names and wedding date. They wrote letters to each other, and put them inside along with a bottle of wine. During the ceremony, they hammered the box shut. The goal is that they don’t have to open the box. But if they’re ever in a rough spot, they’re supposed to open it, read the letters, drink the wine, and be reminded of their wedding day and love for each other. If they don’t need to open the box, they will open it on their 5th anniversary, read the letters, and toast to 5 awesome years. Then, they’ll replenish the wine and letters for the next 5 years. How cool is that??!
For dinner, they had carts with American, Australia, and German food. Every guest received a tasting menu from each country – I ate everything listed on this menu!
Even though it’s March, it’s been in the 30s and 40s. Last November, I wrote about what to wear to a winter wedding – even though it’s not really winter anymore, for the most part, I still stuck to the same uniform – long dress, faux fur.
This is a great option for a wedding guest dress. Here’s a tip for shorter ladies (I’m 5’4″). If you’re looking for a long dress, but it doesn’t come in petite sizes, and you don’t want to/don’t have time to get it hemmed, try what I did, and get a midi dress. The models are often 5’8″-5’10” so the dress will be much longer on you!
This stretch crepe fabric is thick and flattering. However, the dress does run small – I would order at least one size up. Depending on your event, the deep V may or may not work – I wore my faux fur cape during the ceremony in order to cover up. I get so many compliments on my cape every time I wear it! Which is actually more than you’d think – pretty much anytime I need to dress up in the winter (holiday parties, NYE, bachelorette parties, date nights, weddings, etc). I’ve even worn my faux fur for Halloween when my coworkers and I were the “pregnant Kardashians.”
Per our tradition at weddings, my girlfriends and I have to take a serious/obnoxious/fun photo, as if were shooting a promo for Real Housewives or something, hahaha. I also apparently did not get the memo about looking at the camera.
What’s your go-to uniform for weddings?
