Hi Guys! Happy Hump Day! I have a lot going on at the office today, but after work, I’m going to get my first pedicure EVER (at a salon). I’m not kidding! I’ve never ever gotten a pedicure before. More on that later!
Today, I thought I’d show you guys another “casual outfit” after sharing an easy business casual outfit on the blog last week. Recently, my “cute casual outfit inspiration” Pinterest board has been blowing up (millions of views)! So I think there’s definitely a demand for styling casual items so that they’re still fun and cute.
On the blog, you’ll see me in a lot of dresses because in my personal life, that’s what I wear! Winters here are so long, so I definitely take advantage of the warm weather with floral prints and flowy skirts. But doesn’t mean I don’t wear t-shirts and jeans! I just don’t show them a lot on the blog because I think…well who wants to see that? However, I think it would be helpful to share how to dress up a casual outfit, like said t-shirt and jeans, and show how to elevate your look with items that you probably already own.
Here, I’m wearing a gray t-shirt and dark skinny jeans – super casual. I could throw on sneakers or flats and run out the door, but if I want to dress up these wardrobe staples up, I add the following.
Silk Scarf
Most scarves would do the trick (as long as it isn’t too chunky or has a bunch of poms hanging of the bottom – there’s a time and place for that, just not now!) But a silk scarf will look so much more refined and elegant. I’m loving small square silk scarves, which don’t have to be expensive. My scarf is actually only $8 from Amazon, and comes in so many colors and prints! I just fold it once diagonally, roll it into a long tube, and then tie it in a knot.
Red Lipstick
Red lipstick is my go-to move when dressing up a casual outfit. If I don’t have time to put on makeup, or if I’m heading off to the airport, I just throw on sunglasses and a swipe of lipstick. It just looks like you put in effort, even if your outfit states otherwise (and as far as effort, you really just put in like 10 seconds worth of it). I’m wearing this lipstick in Isabella.
Heels
This is an easy one – heels with jeans instantly makes you look more dressed up! To be slightly more comfy, wear a block heel with an ankle strap for more support. Wedges also work if you need to be on your feet all day. If I needed to run errands all day, I would just wear flats, and keep the scarf and heels in my bag for an easy swap when meeting girlfriends afterwards for drinks!
A Nice Bag
You guys, know I love my bags, but I don’t mean that you need a designer bag. To dress up your casual outfit, swap our your slouchy tote or straw bag for something more structured, or that makes a statement.
Earrings
Earrings also only take a few seconds to put on, but help to make you look so much more dressed up. Statement earrings would definitely elevate your look, but here, I’m just wearing my favorite faux diamond earrings. I’ve had them for YEARS and they look brand new. I just make sure to keep them clean.
