Merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate Christmas!
Chris and I have been in Raleigh, NC visiting his family, and the weather has been amazing, especially compared to Chicago. Just a light jacket? Yes please!
I wanted to pop in really quickly and share an outfit I wore while wearing errands the other day, this plaid scarf and silk shirt. We went shopping so Chris could get new gym shoes, out to lunch, to Sherwin Williams so we could pick out our paint colors for the new condo, and to Whole Foods to get groceries.
One of my favorite shirts is this silk one. It’s super versatile, and you can see it featured in this post and this post. It’s supposed to be dry clean only, but I hand wash it, and it’s totally fine. Silk does wrinkle, but I use this travel-sized steamer and I’m able to get wrinkles out within in a minute. It also comes in a bunch of other colors…maybe I need to get another one!
I also love this plaid scarf, and have been using wearing it with all of my simple, non-holiday outfits recently. I paired it with a sweater dress recently, with a plain tee, and with a turtleneck sweater.
I’m a notorious over packer, but this trip, I only packed these waterproof boots, and a pair of gym shoes. And only one coat, this raincoat that doesn’t look like one (now 50% off!). It’s been perfect for some of the rainy days we’ve had! As well as sunny days!
Hmm…what else have we done recently? We’ve spent time just hanging out and chatting with family and watching movies, got brunch with Chris’s friend from high school, and have gone on long walks. We’re also seeing our friends Meghan and Grant who moved to Raleigh from Chicago a few years ago. Oh, and I also found a doula!
It’s been kind of hard adjusting to my gestational diabetes diagnosis the past week (more mentally than anything else). As I said earlier, I do typically eat very healthy, and I went really crazy after I found out I was pregnant (organic only, no desserts, no MSG, no caffeine, etc). I’ve also been very careful to avoid anything unpasteurized and that might have a high risk of listeria (hummus, deli meat, etc). But I do love Chinese and Italian food (rice and pasta). Chris’s family is vegetarian, and his sister is vegan, and now I’m sugar-free and low-carb! But we’ve all done our best to adjust to all the dietary restrictions this holiday season.
We did recently go to a restaurant though that was not particularly friendly about it. I ordered dish that had brisket, salad, and white rice, and asked that they either not include the rice, or put it on the side. And they were like….hmmm I don’t know if we can do that. But after telling them about my pregnancy and gestational diabetes, the waitress said she’d try. Finally, they did pull through and put the rice in a separate bowl (I took a couple of bites). I’ve never worked at a restaurant, but is it really THAT inconvenient for the kitchen? Haha. I ask for dressing on the side all the time! A few years ago, Chris and I read this book, and tried this low-carb, low sugar diet, so it’s kind of like going back on that.
But anyways, I still feel really grateful for everything…and I tell myself that Small Bean will be totally fine as long as I continue to eat healthy. And this time next year, we’ll have a 8-9 month old!!! Crazy!
Wishing all of you guys love, peace, and happiness this holiday season!
