Hi Friends! Happy Friday and last day of November! I’ve been guiltily listening to Christmas music for a few weeks now, but I finally feel like it’s acceptable, haha! Plus, we have our friends’ 5th Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Bar Crawl tonight (and two more holiday parties in the next week). This year, I obviously won’t be participating in the drinking, but I’ll be coming to hang out, and then we’ll all be getting dinner (20ish people?)
Tonight, I’m wearing an ugly Christmas sweater obviously…this is my favorite place to find funny and affordable ones. (See last year’s post here). But what about other holiday events? Brunch with friends? Holiday tea?
My favorite way for making a regular outfit more holiday appropriate is to add a statement accessory, specifically faux fur. (And this works even after the holidays, as long as it’s winter!)
Here, I’m wearing a simple turtleneck black dress, leggings, and knee-high black suede boots…with a faux fur cape. Chris’s company’s “holiday party” is always in January, to avoid the madness in December. It’s pretty casual, and usual entails a sit-down dinner at a restaurant. I’ll be wearing this exact outfit! Uh…well maybe a looser black dress if I can’t fit into this one anymore. I’ve been holding off on maternity clothes, but I don’t know how long that will last!)
I love faux furs! You can get really well-made ones that don’t break the bank, are SO soft, and don’t shed. I also have a white one from my wedding, and a black one I picked up that was on sale last year. I also wore this cape to a winter wedding last year, and a spring wedding this year, when it was still 40 degrees. So I’ve gotten a lot of non-holiday use out of it! But if you don’t want to spring for a cape, this faux fur stole is on sale for only $15!!
Some other ideas! Check out how I styled this velvet blazer here!
A festive scarf
Statement earrings or necklace
Something with sparkles or velvet
Have a great weekend!
