Hi Guys! So here’s a condo update…(or actually, lack there of). If you’re not caught up on my condo drama, this is the brief recap. The first new construction condo (pictured above), was supposed to close by the end of November (it was actually supposed to be done September 2017…yes, 2017!!!!). But the building inspections aren’t complete yet, so I’m guessing it’ll be in December? Over the summer, Chris and I heard about a different building going up, in a location we like even more. So we went under contract for that one (unpictured because it’s just drywall right now) with the intent of selling the first condo when it was done. But now the second condo, the one we plan on moving into, is now delayed until mid-January. Which probably means February? Grrrrrrr…
We still haven’t opened most of our wedding gifts from our January 2017 wedding because we were waiting to move! Much less, you know, start on the baby nursery on anything. And we haven’t purchased a lot of things we’d like because we always figured we’d make do until we move. Use what we have now, donate/toss/sell the things we no longer need when we pack, and replace it with new stuff and break out our wedding gifts in the new place. But I’m tired of waiting! Even though our current one bedroom condo is pretty cluttered, I might just need to start ordering things now, especially with all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday/Week deals.
(Earlier on Instagram Story polls, 82% of you said to get white countertops, even though they’re more work. And you guys helped me choose kitchen cabinets for the second condo. We went with what you picked!)
Shopping list for our new condo
Kitchen
Dutch oven – We got a bunch of Le Creuset things for our wedding…I want to add to our collection – the color is Marseille Blue. This one is on sale!
Instant Pot – We actually asked for one for Christmas from family (when asked about our Christmas lists). We’ll see if we get one! It’s currently on sale here.
Toaster oven – I just tossed our toaster because it started smelling like burning plastic. So right now I’m toasting bread/bagels in a pan. I’m thinking about a toaster oven so I can do some simple baking and re-heating of food (apparently microwaves destroy a lot of vitamins?) And it’s easier to clean out the crumbs.
Cutting boards – We have very blah plastic ones. I love this gray marble one. How fun are these cutting/cheese boards?
Baking sheets – Ours are cheap aluminum ones…definitely need an upgrade there!
Blender – I just threw ours out because it wasn’t really blending anymore…and it also start smelling of burning plastic when it tried to blend. (Why do all my things smell like burning plastic?) Is it worth it to upgrade to one of these?
Coffee maker – We have a simple $20 drip coffee maker which I haven’t even been using lately since I’ve cut caffeine out of my diet during pregnancy. But I feel like I might need it once the baby is here! I’d love one that makes lattes, but to be honest, I don’t know all that much about coffee and which coffee makers are good. This one has good reviews, any recs?
Bar stools – We don’t sit at our bar right now. But our new place (the one not pictured) has big island. I’d love to sit around it for casual meals. I like these minimalistic ones in gray.
Electronics
Roomba – I hate cleaning (as does Chris) so we’re hoping a Roomba will cut down on how frequently we have to clean our floors. We have all hardwood floors in the new place, so hopefully that’s already easier?
TV…Chris wants a giant one for the living room…I think our current one is already 46+ inches, but he wants to move that one to our bedroom.
Master Room
Mattress – Anyone have recommendations? Chris and I have always shared a full (double) sized bed. It’s always been a little tight, but manageable. But it’s been really hard to sleep well since I’ve been pregnant, and tossing and turning to get comfortable. I can’t wait for a larger bed! I think we’ll need a headboard as well.
Sheets and bedding – I got this Barefoot Dreams comforter in a king size already and it’s amazing (it is way too big for our current bed but I don’t care). For sheets, I feel like I’ve heard a lot of things about Brooklyn Linens? Does anyone have their sheets? I’m thinking about getting some since they’re having their biggest sale of the year right now.
Night stands – I’d like to avoid getting a dresser right away as to give our bedroom more space. We’re doing custom closets so hopefully we don’t need one. But that means we might need more nightstands with counter space and drawers to store random knick knacks.
Mirror – I need a full-length mirror for outfit posts! Seriously, I only somewhat recently purchased a $5 one from Target during their back to school sale. How did I get dressed before?
Bathrooms
I’m actually not sure what I need to get…do you have any bathroom/powder room necessities?
Living room
Couch – We want to get a sectional instead of a 3-seat couch and love seat, which is what we have now. Maybe in gray? I’d love a white couch, but I feel like that’s a terrible idea with a baby (and maybe without a baby, because I’m clumsy). On the other hand, our place is SO gray right now…
Coffee table – I’m kind of obsessed with the concrete/industrial look…but in small doses. Our powder room cabinets look like they’re concrete!
Rug – I’ve actually never had a living room rug before! This one is relatively affordable, I think? How much does one reasonably spend on a living room rug?
Decor
I’m not the best at decorating – I feel like I’m not good at finding things that have no/little purpose to serve as decor. But I haven’t had much experience with it due to our lack of living space…I’m excited to give it a shot. What are some other things I should get?
Picture frames – I have like 3 pictures frames up…they’re all mismatched and were given to me at some point as gifts. I think I should have more matching ones.
Prints of photos – We haven’t printed a single one of our wedding photos! Where’s a good/not too expensive place to print them? Here?
Vases – I don’t own a single one! If I get flowers, I stick them in a mason jar, which is fine, but it’d be nice to have an actual vase, right?
Holiday
Well, the holidays will probably be over by the time we move, but I might want to stock up for next year. I’ve been checking out here for inspiration.
I’ll be updating this post as I think of more things, so check back! And any ideas are welcome!
